I trust my gut on design, but I noticed the thing I’m actually bad at is the discipline of keeping a swipe file. I just don’t do it. I react to things in the moment, that’s good, that’s wrong, that font sucks, and then the reference evaporates. I never bank it.
The fix isn’t more taste, it’s more inventory. Go section by section: heroes, navs, type treatments, button styles, and collect the ones that actually work. Then when you’re stuck or something feels off, you’re not pulling from a vague feeling, you’re pulling from a library. Instinct tells you something’s wrong fast. A swipe file tells you what right looks like.
What’s the craft discipline you keep skipping because instinct usually covers for it?
