There’s so much I want to say about most of the things I care about, and that’s actually my weakness, not my strength. My gap is over-explaining. I bombard. I try to hand someone the whole structure at once because I can see it, and it overwhelms them before they’ve taken a single step in.
The better move is restraint. Don’t lay the whole thing out. Make it possible to pull the threads. Leave enough of an edge that a curious person can tug on the part that interests them and find there’s more underneath.
It’s a discipline I have to choose, because my instinct runs the other way. Say less. Leave the pull. The person who wants the depth will go find it, and they’ll trust it more because they reached for it.
