When I look back across everything I’ve wanted to build, the common thread is collaboration. My actual dream has always been a few people solving problems together, and I think my role is to be the one who helps that start. Not necessarily to own it. To facilitate it.
There’s an old Japanese poetic form called renga. One poet writes the first three lines, hands it to the next, who adds two, and on it goes, each person building on what came before. One candle lighting another without dimming. What it implies is that the blank page, the ruthless part of starting, can be elegantly side-stepped through the contributions of others. You don’t have to sing alone.
That’s the model I keep wanting to live inside. People more passionate about the objective than about being the one who started it. So many of our best ideas die from our own individual limitations. Handed back and forth, they don’t have to.
