A field note should be able to stand alone and point outward.
Both parts matter.
If it cannot stand alone, it becomes too dependent on setup.
If it does not point outward, it becomes a dead end.
The note should say one thing clearly enough that someone can carry it.
Then it should leave a trail.
To the older question.
To the related thought.
To the tension underneath it.
That is the shape.
Small enough to enter.
Connected enough to keep going.
