A field note should let source trails stay close to the claim.
Not so close that the note becomes paperwork.
Not so far that the claim floats away from where it came from.
Close enough that a reader can ask:
Where did this come from?
What made it feel true?
How much should I trust it?
The source trail is not there to make the note feel academic.
It is there to keep the conversation honest.
