Every company needs a living context layer.
Not just a source of truth.
That phrase can still sound too static.
A source of truth often becomes a shelf.
The living context layer is different.
It should know what the company is trying to do.
It should know what has changed.
It should know what is still uncertain.
It should know which decisions are open, which ones have been made, and what evidence made them feel true enough.
It should understand roles without reducing people to titles.
It should help someone enter the work with better context than they could gather alone.
That matters more as AI enters the operating system of a company.
If everyone is using AI, but each person is reasoning from a different local snapshot, the company still fragments.
The shared context layer is how the work starts to cohere.
It does not need to erase differences.
It should make the differences more useful.
Different people bring different context, goals, taste, fears, constraints, and judgment.
The company gets stronger when those inputs can meet inside a shared map.
That is the part I find interesting.
AI is not only a tool layer.
It is a context layer question.
