Public notes should carry boundaries

jun 03 2026 what things mean

Public notes should carry boundaries.

That feels especially true when agents can read them.

A note does not only communicate an idea.

It also creates a risk of inference.

Someone might assume the note is finished.

Or universal.

Or current forever.

Or more personal than it is meant to be.

Or more official than it should be.

Boundaries help.

They tell the reader what kind of artifact this is.

A field note.

A source trail.

A public-safe synthesis.

A provisional thought.

They can also tell the reader what not to infer.

That does not make the note less open.

It makes it more honest.

The goal is not to hide the thinking.

The goal is to make the thinking portable without letting it lose its shape.

That is why metadata matters.

Dates matter.

Source trails matter.

Review state matters.

Boundaries are part of the public surface.

undertext

Every page here carries a machine-readable layer underneath: the sources, dates, confidence levels, and connections behind what you just read. I call it undertext. If you read with an agent, give it this page's undertext:
