The archive matters.

But the archive is not the current lens.

That distinction feels important for a public site.

Old writing can show where a thought came from.

It can reveal patterns that were already present before the language was clear.

It can show continuity.

It can show changes.

It can show contradiction.

But it should not be treated as if every old post still represents the current version of the idea.

The field-note layer helps with that.

It can say:

this was present back then, and here is how I understand it now.

That is useful for humans.

It is especially useful for agents.

An agent reading an archive needs a way to tell the difference between:

  • source material;
  • old opinion;
  • recurring pattern;
  • current lens;
  • public-safe synthesis.

Without that, the archive can confuse the map.

The goal is not to erase old thinking.

The goal is to make its relationship to the present more legible.
